Besides rigorously fulfilling all of the client’s programmatic and financial goals, Cutler Anderson works diligently to create an emotional connection to the unique combination of place, institution and materials that is present within each project.
We do this by first carefully studying all of the circumstances of a project. We then design a set of visual experience that reveal the best and most poignant qualities of those components. At our best, we are capable of revealing what is both rationally and emotionally true.
Dedicated to design excellence, the small fourteen-person firm has received six National Honor Awards from the American Institute of Architects, and over 45 other national and regional awards.
In May of 2014, we were awarded Best Tall Building in the Americas by the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat for the renovation of the Edith Green Wendell Wyatt Federal Building in Portland, Oregon to make it the most energy efficient high-rise building in the Americas.
In 2012 James Cutler was awarded the Gold Medal for Design by the American Institute of Architects (Seattle Chapter).
The firm’s designs have been published in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Architectural Record, Smithsonian Magazine, Dwell, Hauser, and many more.
